Why is polished concrete generally avoided for outdoor use?
While it looks stunning, polished concrete and the Great Outdoors don’t mix well for two main reasons:
-
Slip Resistance: Once concrete is polished to a high sheen, it becomes incredibly slick when wet. Rain, dew, or pool splashes can turn the floor into a skating rink.
-
Weathering and “Ghosting”: Exposure to UV rays and freeze-thaw cycles can cause the densifiers and sealers used in the process to degrade. Over time, the high-gloss finish will etch and become dull or patchy.
