How Does Polyurea Concrete Floor Coatings Compare Against Epoxy?
On the left hand side is a garage floor with an epoxy coated floor (by the homeowner) which after a few years began to fade and peel. We used a grinder to remove it and replaced it with a polyspartic polyurea floor with a 15-year warranty.
Polyurea and epoxy each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Polyurea is more durable and can withstand more wear and tear, but it is also more expensive. Epoxy is less expensive, but it is not as durable and may need to be reapplied more often.
Here is a comparison of the two types of coatings:
Feature | Polyurea | Epoxy |
---|---|---|
Durability | More durable | Less durable |
Water resistance | Very water resistant | Water resistant |
Chemical resistance | Very chemically resistant | Chemical resistant |
Impact resistance | Very impact resistant | Impact resistant |
Slip resistance | Slip resistant with Different Grades | Slip resistant |
UV resistance | Very UV resistant | UV resistant |
Installation time | Quicker to install | Takes longer to install |
Warranty | Longer warranty | Shorter warranty |
If you are looking for a durable, long-lasting coating that can withstand heavy use, then polyurea is a good option.
